Beneath Thy Protection (Greek: 1017528_509794469090337_1326831733_n; Latin: Sub tuum praesidium) is the oldest preserved extant hymn to the Blessed Virgin Mary (Theotokos God-Bearer). circa 2nd century AD

Ὑπὸ τὴν σὴν εὐσπλαγχνίαν,
καταφεύγομεν, Θεοτόκε.
Τὰς ἡμῶν ἱκεσίας,
μὴ παρίδῃς ἐν περιστάσει,
ἀλλ᾽ ἐκ κινδύνων λύτρωσαι ἡμᾶς,
μόνη Ἁγνή, μόνη εὐλογημένη.

Sub tuum praesidium
confugimus,
Sancta Dei Genetrix.
